Slate Sealing

Slate Sealing

Sealing is the application of a surface treatment to slow down or stop staining. All natural stone is porous since it is made up of countless interconnected capillary pores through which liquids and gases can move. Natural stone may include granite, basalt, marble, limestone, travertine, sandstone and slate. These porous materials act like a "hard sponge" and actually suck in liquids over time, along with any dissolved salts and other minerals. Very porous stone, such as sandstone will absorb liquids relatively quickly, while denser igneous stones such as granite are significantly less porous and may take an hour or more to absorb oils and water-based liquids.

Camera equipment

Camera Equipment

Films are made up of a series of individual images called frames. When these images are shown rapidly in succession, a viewer has the illusion that motion is occurring.  These images are recorded using a camera.

The origin of the name "film" comes from the fact that photographic film (sometimes called film stock) has historically been the primary medium for recording and displaying motion pictures.

Powys

Powys is a local-government county and preserved county in Wales. Powys covers the historic counties of Montgomeryshire and Radnorshire, most of Brecknockshire, and a small part of Denbighshire — an area of 5,196 km², making it the largest county in Wales by land area. It is bounded to the north by Gwynedd, Denbighshire and Wrexham; to the west by Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire; to the east by Shropshire and Herefordshire; and to the south by Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent, Monmouthshire and Neath Port Talbot. Most of Powys is mountainous, with north-south transportation by car being difficult. The majority of the Powys population is made up of small villages and towns. The largest is Newtown, with a population of 12,783 (2001). Just under a third of the residents have Welsh linguistic skills and Welsh speakers are concentrated mainly in the rural areas both in and around Machynlleth, Llanfyllin and Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant.

Arts and Crafts

Arts and crafts comprise a whole host of activities and hobbies that are related to making things with one's hands and skill. These can be sub-divided into handicrafts or "traditional crafts" (doing things the old way) and "the rest". Some crafts have been practised for centuries, while others are modern inventions, or popularisations of crafts which were originally practised in a very small geographic area. Most crafts require a combination of skill, speed, and patience, but they can also be learnt on a more basic level by virtually anyone. Many community centres and schools run evening or day classes and workshops offering to teach basic craft skills in a short period of time. Many of these crafts become extremely popular for brief periods of time (a few months, or a few years), spreading rapidly among the crafting population as everyone emulates the first examples, then their popularity wanes until a later resurgence.

Handicrafts

Handicrafts are also known as craft work or simply crafts, is a type of work where useful and decorative devices are made completely by hand or using only simple tools. Usually the term is applied to traditional means of making goods. The individual artisanship of the items is a paramount criterion, such items often have cultural and/or religious significance. Items made by mass production or machines are not handicrafts. Usually, what distinguishes the term handicraft from the frequently used category arts and crafts is a matter of intent: handicraft items are intended to be used, worn, etc, having a purpose beyond simple decoration. Handicrafts are generally considered more traditional work, created as a necessary part of daily life, while arts and crafts implies more of a hobby pursuit and a demonstration/perfection of a creative technique. In practical terms, the categories have a great deal of overlap. This might include knitting or many other crafts.
